4 out of 5 stars The Sims go to College!   November 12, 2008
This is a welcome addition to the Sims 2 universe! This expansion creates a new "age" range the young adult. There is so much to do with this expansion, but the basic idea is that you and your Sims you created (or selected from a group of already created Sims) attend one of three universities. From there you can select your major, change your major and get on the Deans list. Attending classes means homework and you will also have to bring up certain attributes (Cleaning, Charisma, Cooking, etc) to continue through your four years of college. Join a society, either a frat of a sorority by becoming a Pledge and earning friends for life. You will reside in either a private home on campus (this lets you get married and have kids while attending college) or you will reside in one of the resident's halls complete with room-mates. I haven't found this one yet, but if you discover a secret society on campus, you just might get an invite.

The best part about this expansion is the major's you can choose. The list is extremely long but here's an abbreviated list of majors that allow you to specialize in specific jobs (you'll find yourself promoted faster):

Psychology: Pursue Career's in the Paranormal, Law Enforcement, or in Show Business

Drama: Pursue Career's in Show Business, and opportunities in Politics and Athletics

Art: Pursue Career's as Artists, the Paranormal or Culinary

Philosophy: Pursue Career's as a Slacker, Culinary or the Paranormal

Biology: Pursue Career's as a Natural Scientist, Law Enforcement or Medicine

Economics: (this would pair well with Open for Business expansion pack! Pursue Career's in Business, Politics or Show Business

Literature: Pursue Career's as a Criminal, Slacker or Show Business

Mathematics: Pursue Career's as a Natural Scientist, Science or as a Criminal

History: Pursue Career's in the Military, an Artist or Politics

Physics: Pursue Career's as a Scientist, Medicine or the Paranormal

Political Science: Pursue Career's in Politics, Show Business or the Military

The careers listed first are the careers intended for that field of study so choose well. Still your Sims will excel in the other careers without difficulty.

Before heading to college (if you have a teen sim ready to enter college) and the teen Sims has done well in school, they can apply for scholarships. If you're like me and prefer not to use money cheats (which are easy to find just Google "Sim 2 Cheats") and your student does not receive a scholarship - there are places on campus which your student can work at to earn extra cash on the side.

Everything here is just like the name implies, Sim as in simulation. This game simulates everything about campus life, final exams, classes (with very entertaining names), streaking across campus, pulling pranks, learning skills - everything you need to know and do while at college, just like in real life (you can even cheat on a girlfriend/boyfriend). Moods, Needs, and Wants are crucial to get the most out of this game and playing more than two Sims when first starting out can be very hectic. I suggest choosing no more than two Sims until you get the hang of things (trust me I tried six people my first time and had a rough go).

This expansion offers new careers (Paranormal, Show Business, Artist, Natural Scientist), new styles (groovy, medieval), new career awards (Luminous Pro Antique Camera, Dr. Vus Automated Cosmetic Surgeon), and new items (Guitar, Bass, Drum Kit, Piano, Fruit Punch Barrel). Such a wealth of new stuff to add to an already fun game; my only complaint: Sims 3 is coming in February. If you love the Sims universe as much as I do - you might want to just pass this expansion up and wait for Sims 3. Sims 2 added SO many improvements to the game; Sims 3 will no doubt do the same to revolutionize the simulation gaming genre.

5 out of 5 stars Toga... toga... TOGA.. TOGA!   July 27, 2008

With the University expansion pack, our old friend, Sims 2, goes to an all new, strange place: college.

There's a lot of new stuff added to the game with this pack. Heck, it's practically a game all on its own! You get a new life-stage for your Sims (young-adult), new aspirations (including ones like "First Woo-Hoo!"), eleven majors your Sim can pick from, fraternities, dorms, campus hang-out spots, places where you can work part time, all new gizmos and doo-dads, etc, etc!

Best of all, when you graduate and your Sim enters the working world, they will almost certainly be hired at the fourth or fifth level of their career! Plus you'll already have a great many skills (especially if you raised your Sim from an infant), and friends, so once you get out into the "real" world, you should have no problem advancing.

There's no down side at all to this game (well, except for the fact that I've never managed to get my Sim into a frat or sorority. Probably because, like me, they're pretty anti-social. I am a gamer, after all). There's all the usual Sims elements we know and love plus all the extras! A total win for "Sims 2" players everywhere!

I loved this because it's fun for this "young adults" to be living with there friends in dorms and going to college and stuff! I loved also how your major can boost a career in that area! It helps out! Alot of fun!

Overall it's a fun expansion pack. The hourly setup for college is a great idea and it makes the game flow nicely. Definitely recommend it for Sims fans!

4 out of 5 stars Expansion Pack adds new aspects of playability   May 15, 2008

Uni is good if you want to have more time with your sims. You get an additional 28 (?) sim days out of it, so lots more time for reaching those LTWs of 50 first dates and 25 whoohoos and such or for extra skill building. Also lots of time to make loads of friends for popularity sims. For me, its just too long. I don't want to play a sim through 2 full lifetimes.
