My son read it in just 2 days November 11, 2008 We loved the book and I loved that it offered something that my child would love to read. The story held pretty close to the movie which we didn't see until after he read the book.
HSM3 October 21, 2008 I really enjoyed reading this book. It helped me get a feeling of what the movie is going to be about. It was a fast read, but it was entertaining and kept my attention. I can't wait until the movie comes out this Friday.

N. B. Grace has authored all three of the "High School Musical" novelizations, as well as several of the "Stories from East High". None of the books are exceptionally written, but despite being rather bland do tell the story well. This book follows the new theatrical movie to be released October 24th. I was pleasantly surprised with the plot, though Grace never made an attempt to make the writing more engaging. Instead, it dully and dutifully tells the final chapter in Troy and Gabriella's high school days. Bottom line: children under 12 will probably enjoy it and HSM-fanatics can get a sneak peek at what we'll be seeing on the big screen (the previous novelizations took quotes directly from the movie). Otherwise, you should save your $5 for something else.
