Steal my heart December 14, 2008 A well plotted romance revolving around solving a crime and bringing a crooked cop to justice.
I loved this book! December 11, 2008 This is my second book by James Buchanan and I loved them both completely! Cheating Chance was fantastic but The Good Thief blew it away! I loved Caesar! He was so tough but sweet...and when you added Nate with him it became even better. The heat from these two made this a very enjoyable ride. The author writes books with characters that I think most anyone would want to be with...makes you care for them, wish the best for them, want them and adore them. Can't do much better than that! If only the author wrote more! I finished this book in record time because I just did not want to put it down and then immediately after finishing it...I read it again! And it was just as fantastic as the first time!
'S Good ... but .... November 17, 2008 I really enjoyed this book. Enjoyed the pace, the story, the characters. Unfortunately, there is some God awful Spanish in this novel. Terrible. So bad it's hard to believe it is that bad. Words are misspelled that could be corrected by merely wandering into a Mexican restaurant (and aren't they everywhere?). It was terribly distracting. Though I suppose if the reader knows absolutely zilch Spanish it takes nothing away from the story. Still, some of the phrases used made me shudder. No self-respecting Mexican (certainly no self-respecting, inner-city, male Mexican) would ever use some of the language coloring this novel. Seems to me that if you're going to write about something, and are not overly familiar with it, then it's not such a bad idea to do a little research on it. But, other than that, I enjoyed the book. I just tried really hard not to look at the Spanish.
Beyond belief and dreadful October 9, 2008 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a boring dreadful book about a white Irish policeman and a hispanic thief who have sex every five pages. The initial setup of the crime is good idea; however, it is never developed and all too easily resolved in the last few pages. The possibility that these two men had a relationship which lasted beyond the 229 pages of this book is remote. Don't waste your time or money! Exactly what sort of "editing" did Maura Anderson do? Reviewers "Chocolate Minx" and "Xeranth" really need to get to a good bookstore and expand their reading selections. There is good gay literature to be read - this book is not one of them.
The Good Thief September 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Caesario Jose Payan-Serrano is a thief. He meets Officer Nathan Reilly at a party. Nate and Caesar have a bit to much to drink and spend the night together, but in the morning, they vaguely remember each other. That's when Caesar discovers that Nate's a cop and he takes off running. A few days later, they run into each other again. Caesar tries to blow Nate off but it doesn't work and Nate ends up blowing Caesar off instead. A criminal and a cop can't have a future together but Caesar and Nate can't seem to stay away from each other either.
Caesar finds himself in need of a cop's help and turns to Nate. Nate has no choice but to help Caesar, because if he doesn't, a heinous crime will go unpunished. Nate and Caesar's lives are at stake when certain individuals want them to mind their own business, and their hearts are at stake when their feelings for each other go beyond attraction.
Opposites attract and the bad guy wins in The Good Thief. James Buchanan pens a terrific story with two great characters and an intense storyline. Caesar holds no guilt about being a thief. I never once thought badly of him. In fact, I think I fell as hard for him as Nate did. Nate is a cop through and through. He's loyal, honest, and takes his job very seriously. He's so sexy. It's so much fun watching these two fall for each other! The Good Thief is a hot, romantic, and exciting.
