Perfect for prosumers February 9, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To get to the point, here's a listing of the great points of Vegas.
- Access to most functions are right in front of you. - Fast. Without the aid of hardware, Vegas is much faster then Premiere at creating previews and giving feedback. - Tons of options straight out of the box. For the money, you get a lot with Vegas. - Extremely easy and accurate video capturing. - Great at helping you keep organized. - In my opinion, the best option for prosumers wanting the most straigt out of the box.
At work I use whatever's the current version of Premiere. At home I use whatever's the current version of Vegas. Let's just say I'm much more satisfied at home, and I've used both programs for 4 years. At work I'm constantly getting frustrated with Premiere and it's poor layout, buried features and clumsy controls. It seems to take a long time to get anything done.
I will grant one thing. Choosing a package and what is considered "intuitive" is a sort of philosophical choice. What seems easy to understand to me can be complicated and frastrating to someone else and viceversa. But I would argue that with ample training in Vegas most people would see many of my arguements for Vegas. Out of the box, there's no arguement that Vegas offers more than most of it's competitors.
Is Vegas the best out there? No, but you have to spend a lot more to get better. Downloading the trial version and spending some time on it is the best thing you can do.
The best video editing software ever (for PC) July 23, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can not compare to Final Cut Pro because I never used it, but I have tried at least 10 other high-priced and "professional" video editors for PC. Vegas has been the best ever since I discovered it (version 3.0 from Sonic Foundry). I can not say there is a remarkable improvement over version 4, but this is better.
Either way - Vegas 5 is the most easy-to use, intuitive video editor I have seen. With customizable layout, infinite video/audio tracks, simple cross-fading system and layering - this is any professional's dream! Try the demo before you buy - this way you will not complain to amazon later! Perhaps this program is not for everyone, but my computer illiterate dad (whose english is not perfect either) learned it in a few hours of playing with it. My brother (not computer savvy) also loves it over any other product I showed him. My friend - used maybe as many video editors as me is now a faithfull follower of this program. This program doesn't have siple wizards some people want - for that you may try "cheap" video programs that can't do anything you want unless you want to do something specific they are designed for.
Everything you want to do with video (even undulating speed stretching back/forth) - can be done very quickly. With an enormous ammount of effects and the ability to add them on top of each other, change their parameters throughout the duration of the clips fluidly or quicky (as you prefer): VEGAS VIDEO IS THE BEST PROFESSIONAL (and easiest to use) VIDEO EDITING PROGRAM IN THE WORLD!
Any suggestions? I just want a good simple editor? July 7, 2005 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
Having worked at radio stations for the last 15 years, I've become pretty comfortable with all the sound editing softwares like Sound Forge and Cool Edit. After some persuasion from friends and family, and a downturn in the radio industry, i've decided to give the idea of transferring people's home movies to dvd, as a business a serious go, thinking that video editing programs worked, just like sound editing programs. Holy hell, was I wrong!!!
Downloaded the trial version of Sony Vegas 4.0 last year, installed it, and completely freaked out, both at the interface and its workings. Opened an existing video file from my home movies, tried doing some basic fade ins from black screen and fade outs to black screen. But couldn't do anything. I looked at the rendering thing, understanding that it was like opening an mp3, and to render in wav format, but obviously this works totally different to. I just wanted to make some VCD's on my existing CD burner as I don't have a DVD burner yet. Just wanted to know how to use the program, before investing into all this new fang-dangle-kind-of-stuff.
So rather then picking the software to pieces, saying how hopeless the design of the program was, I would like to ask anybody out there if they know of any good-quality video editing software that is easy to use., (not some version 1.0 shareware crap) I was looking at uleads videostudio, but was turned off by some reviews that stated that the software didn't even have basic copy and paste functionality. Also looked a Pinnacle, but read some "well written" reviews on how terriblely slow and horrid it was. Roxio Videowave also copped some nasty punches for stability and frying up hard-drives. Adobe premier elements looked very promising, but discovered it won't work on my Windows ME / 128 RAM computer.
So please, anybody, where do I turn??? I would like to use some video editing software that works in the same way as Sony's Sound Forge. Suggestions can be posted to [...]. Thanks in advance.
