Very Disappointing Product - Use the free version instead! October 17, 2008 I have been a loyal customer and bought a full version of PP10, and paid to upgrade to PP11. During the last 18 months, I upgraded my laptop twice, and then upgraded my current laptop from XP to Vista. When I downloaded the Vista version and tried to reinstall it, it says the software cannot be activated. Turns out that they only let you install the darn thing 3 times.
THAT IS SIMPLY RIDICULOUS IN THIS DAYS AND AGES. To add insult to injury, they want you to pay full price and buy another full version.
Guess what. They lost me as a customer, permanently. I uninstalled it and use the FREE Paperport that comes with my Brother All-in-one printer instead. And then, I discovered that there are actually many free Print-to-PDF products that you can download from the web, such as CutePDF, or PrimoPDF.
Don't waste time with this product!
Bugs, Crashes, and Junk September 27, 2008 This software really is a stinker. While it does do some things right, like making PDF files and giving some scanner profile options, the thing just crashes too much. I'm too scared to uninstall and reinstall it because the software will deactivate and I will have to probably pay for a support incident via email (no phone support available). What a really bad company. I am currently shopping for something else after having thrown 200 bucks down the pit.
Shameful failure to fix bugs August 6, 2008 I've been using PaperPort 11 Pro for two years. It presents a good way to scan, file and organize printed documents. I love the utility it offers.
Unfortunately, the program has critical, fatal bugs. If there were another product that does what PP does, I'd dump this dog and buy it immediately. (Hear that, software developers out there?) Nuance has done nothing to fix the bugs, nor has it offered any updates. Instead, I get regular pop-up "notices" about "updates" and "new features"... that are nothing but ads for other products. Gimme a break.
Key problems: Manipulating large documents results in program crashes. Scanning documents frequently results in program crashes. Adding annotations results in frequent program crashes. Scanning documents results in program crashes. The "sticky note" feature doesn't work. When you attach a note to a page, you can't edit or read the note past the first line.
Related problems: Nuance's web site offers no support or help on any of these issues. I'm not going to pay to get help with critical and fatal bugs. Nuance should just fix them. Nuance couldn't care less about its customers. I give them a big raspberry and will never buy another Nuance product. My problems have cost them many customers because I share my frustrations with others.
A friend of mine used to work for the company. He tells me that since it was sold, all programming for products is done overseas. There is no support of products, no maintenance, no bug fixes. You buy it, it's yours "as is", lotsa luck.
It's really too bad. This product is a great concept, and the bugs are fixable. I will eventually dump the program altogether and kludge together my own way to file and organize pdf's. I will probably buy Acrobat's PDF system, pay more, get something that actually works when I need it.
And that's the reason not to buy this software: It will leave you stranded in the middle of an important project.
Didn't work, didn't start, nada April 3, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I installed the "free 15 day trial" version of PP Pro 11 from a website download. The install was slow but successful.
Something did start - an indexing program appeared on my system tray. My first ditch to drive into was to tell it to index the PDF files on My Documents. It indexed every single file there.
Next, I clicked on the friendly "paperport" shortcut on my desktop. Nothing happened. I rebooted. Clicked on the not-so-friendly-now shortcut, again. Nothing happened, again.
Found out I would have to pay $9.95 to report this problem via email.
My next stop was the uninstaller and a visit to Nuance's website to cancel the "free trial" which would have cost me $199.99 in 15 days.
Whew! Close one, Eddie. Such bogus stuff. How did they get to version 11.0? Do they multiple their internal alpha releases by 10 and start from there?
Stay far far away February 12, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been a Paperport user for many years. Version 11 is full of bugs, frequently hangs running under Vista, and there is noooooooo help from Tech Support unless you are willing to part with $9.95 per call. Emails to Tech Support are answered with stock replies, if at all. Save yourself a lot of frustration, don't buy or upgrade to Version 11 if you running Vista.
