Warrantee -- What Warrantee December 29, 2008 I purchased this thing in February 08, and it worked until one day in mid December then it went dead; it was working one day and the next day nothing. Went through a series of checks and satisfied myself there was a problem with the device. Called Linksys --- long wait --- talked to rep in foreign country. Several attempts at do this and that, nothing worked. It was obvious the thing no longer worked, but no RMA. Instead I got the brush off; download new drivers and call back. New drivers were identical to those already installed. Two years and a month before the expiration of warrantee I own a WUSB54GSC that is nothing more than a poor paperweight.
Linksys adapter December 26, 2008 I got this product for my Desktop computer. A family friend recommended this. It works great,I do not have any problems to connect to the wireless network. I recommend this product.
Never Buying Linksys Again December 20, 2008 I purchased this product 10 months ago. It came with EXTREMELY poorly designed software and wouldnt work with secured networks for some reason, but it at least worked for 10 months in our unsecured home network where we use it 99.9% of the time. Then it all of a sudden it was receiving at only 2-5 Mbps, down from 54 Mbps. I called tech support, and they said my warranty ran out-- which i told them was impossible since I had the receipt showing I bought it only 10 months ago and I was in fact out of the country when they said I bought it. I finally convinced them to help me and they got it going to 11 Mbps. The tech support guy then said 11 Mbps is a "good enough speed." I said that I didnt buy this overpriced product for a "good enough speed." He then proceeded to blame the diminished speed on the network, the router (which was a linksys router) etc. I told him that I had 4 other computers using other their own wireless receivers at 54 Mbps without a problem. I was convinced the thing was defective and demanded a replacement but they wouldnt give it to me since it still is technically working. I was very put off by these guys and their defective product. I am positive I won't be buying any more linksys products again.
Good Customer Service, Bad Product December 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We'd had this about 3 months when it went on the blink, which stinks, BUT the customer service was great. I called up their customer support; got through to a real (friendly) person relatively quickly; spent about 15 minutes troubleshooting online; they declared it defective; I mailed in my old unit (at my cost); they shipped me a new unit at their cost. This took about 2 weeks in all. The new one is working great with my Lynksis WRT54GS running DD-WRT firmware. The wireless card is upstairs and the router is downstairs, and we never have issues with the signal. I'd probably buy this product again.
UPDATE: Okay, so our second one went out in a few weeks. When we called tech support they said it was a known issue that if you didn't use the extension (provided with the wireless card) that it would overheat and die. So, we figured maybe the second card was sort of our fault, sort of theirs for not being clear that the extension wasn't optional. So we purchased a third card--same model number--to serve in the interim as we waited for the replacement. And guess what? It wouldn't install.
So basically, we've been on the line with customer service three times for this product. Every time they were polite and patient, and there was a very short wait time. But that simply does NOT make up for a defective product. Sorry, but three strikes and you're out! I will be looking for another wireless card.
Does not work December 14, 2008 This item did not work with my HP Windows XP computer. I spent three hours on the phone with technical support and they gave up and offered a replacement (I do not think it was a defect in the hardware because tech support came off like they did not have a clue). I bought the equivalent by Netgear and was up and running ten minutes later.
